The Jolly Timber Guy

The Jolly Timber Guy was founded by Michael Hilder in 2018 and is a family run business. Coming from a rich history of woodworkers, Michael continues his family tradition, creating and making beautiful timber products. His Grandfather Alfred, was initially involved in horse racing with his father Albert before he discovered a talent for building, repairing  and using timber products. These skills were passed down to his sons John and Gary who continue to create a wide range of beautiful timber products to this day and have many customers in Coastal N.S.W. Although Michael is based in Melbourne, he still creates new pieces with his father Gary 3-4 times per year as they get together and innovate. In keeping JTG in the family, daughter Taleisha heads up the marketing and design team while son in law Daniel has joined the team under the watchful eye of Michael, learning and honing his skills in woodworking. Young Isaac, Michael's grandson will no doubt become a 5th generation woodworker just like his family has for almost 100 years and hopefully will become the next Jolly Timber Guy.

Family tradition is very important to us at JTG and as a way of ensuring that 3 generations live and breathe through every piece, Michael still uses a couple of very old hand tools from his father and grandfather to make the first cut and mark on all JTG products, giving each item a sense of heritage and nostalgia...
